Finished! D

A satisfying ending, and, really, the best outcome John could hope for, I guess. Mycroft's right in saying that social change takes time, and that economic pressure and slow legislative changes do tend to be more effective than appealing to people's consciences and common sense. And only he would be clever and patient enough to see that agenda through several decades. THough I do agree with John in that radicals like him are needed to speed the process along.

Mycroft's very practical in this. John's very idealistic. Ideally there would be someone who mixes the two, but not in this fic.

"his eyes darted to John briefly, as if asking for permission"

As I'm sure was your intent, the line I quoted above makes it the whole thing seem much less bleak. Sure, at this point Stockholm syndrome would have kicked in, with or without the collar, so really the situation still isn't consensual any way one looks at it, but the fact that Sherlock looks to John for permission, as well, and seems to conceive of himself and John as equals makes things slightly more cheerful. Though, of course, if one thinks about it too hard, yeah, there's no way this could end truly happily.

I enjoyed reading this greatly. Thanks for writing!

Yeah, I'm afraid truly consensual is just impossible with this set up, but this is about as close as it can come to it. There just is no way to spin an unfucked up ending out of this.

Yay. I was trying to hint at Mycroft's agenda without make it too obvious. I wanted that to make sense in retrospect even if it wasn't predictable before hand.
