And I forget that Zac Efron played flashback Simon in Firefly and there's a whole other level of intertextuality and creepiness that shows up. Lessons learned: 1) when a prof asks me to explain multifandom vidding pick Metaphor as my example because it's easier to explain without several minutes of context, 2) don't eat while watching grimdark vids because you might choke on a cherry.* *LOL symbolism?

All That I Adore by DemonicLullabyMVs My comments: Another live action Ouran High School Host Club vid found through the Tumblr for it. This one's concept is that everyone loves Haruhi (which means Tamaki, Kyouya, Hikaru and Kaoru in this case). Has spoilers through to episode nine and stuttery (sorry, not so much stuttery as really fast) cutting, bright lights, and quickly shifting coloring, plus the most perfect song choice, ever. Matches to Paper Dolls by Xandra (I DARE Say Productions) My comments: Perfectly lovely exploration of River Song's relationship with the Doctor from her point of view. Great lyric-to-clip matching. This next one isn't a fanvid, strictly speaking, but it did make me ridiculously full of glee: Bad Romance by On the Rocks My comments: University of Oregon's a cappella ensemble takes on Lady Gaga's Bad Romance. Hilarity ensues! I love this because all these men look like they're having so much fun, but it's still serious business. To go off-topic, my sister and I still think this song would be perfect for a meta vid about how Supernatural managed to make so many watchers angry, but not enough to quit watching. (Including myself, of course. I put a vid on hold because I'm still mad at the show.) Supernatural is fandom's bad romance!

AWESOME \o/ really reminds me of my first baby vidding/internet steps in the kawoosh/stargate forum. awww. - so kuwdora made an absolutely wonderful tony stark vid: walk this way but more importantly she made a STEVE/TONY VID. i summon you. so okay, there's not really a lot (or any) source for the two of them yet, but it combines the iron man movies & captain america in such an absolutely gorgeous way ... GO WATCH. look at my gorgeous new otp :`)

Why I'm recommending it: Geez Louise, I never thought about how similar the beach scene with Erik and Charles is to the scene with Ten and the Master from Last of the Time Lords but, wow, this sort of blew me away! If you're a fan of either of these, definitely check it out and if you're a fan of both, you've GOTTA see this! :D If you enjoy, please do let the vidder know! Vid title: Loki / Sif - el tango de Roxanne Vidder: MsQu7 Fandom: Thor Description: Jealousy will drive you MAD! Why I'm recommending it: Eee, an incredibly awesome Sif/Loki vid that also manages to follow the story in the song AND used dialogue from the film to such amazing use? Yes, please! \o/ This was one of those AMAZING finds that I stumbled across at YT last night and I was thrilled to discover it! The timing of Loki's Tell me! as the music surges up at 1:38 literally gave me chills (of the awesome viddly kind ;) ) as does the way we blast forcibly back to color at 2:09. SO GOOD! I utterly adore this vid! ♥! If you enjoy, please do let the vidder know! Vid title: CLU\Quorra: What if... NC-17 Vidder: MsQu7 Fandom: TRON: Legacy Description: What if CLU isn't so bad? What if he and Quorra liked each other? Why I'm recommending it: Holy mackerel, Batman! O_O If you would've told me that you could make a legitimately naughty vid for Clu/Quorra out of only TRON: Legacy footage, I don't know that I would've believe it. Then, here came this vid! @_@ I saw it a while back at tron_legacy and then realized while I was fangirling over Loki / Sif - el tango de Roxanne that this is the same vidder for both of them! Warning: though there's no outside footage at all used, you still might blush if you're the sensitive type, lol! ;) *blushes* ;) But to see such awesome AU created simply out of creative editing, it's worth a little blushing, IMO. ;) I also loved seeing Kevin Flynn looking so happy to be having dinner with Clu and Quorra, awww... That was a bit of sweetness in an otherwise short and gritty vid! ;) ♥! If you enjoy, please do let the vidder know! [x] redblueskies - Rec: X-Men: First Class (Vid): Rolling in the Deep Vidder: arefadedaway (dreamwidth) Pairing: Charles Xavier/ Erik Lehnsherr Summary: Charles and Erik, from beginning to end. When I first started looking at the Charles/Erik fic produced by fandom I was disappointed to see that there was so very little of it that dealt with what happened after the Beach Divorce (as fandom has taken to calling it.) I can see why people choose to ignore it. It's not a happy story, after all, and Charles and Erik most definitely don't get to walk off hand in hand toward the sunset with love in their hearts and smiles on their faces... But damn it. I wanted that fic! You know. The one where it's all terrible, and they never do reconcile with one another - but love each other anyway because love doesn't care about petty things like ideological differences. I wanted that fic. Well... I didn't exactly find that fic... I found something better. This vid by arefadedaway is all of that and more. Almost entitled 'ALL THE FEELINGS' this vid looks at Charles and Erik and takes who they were and what they became, and makes it wonderful. It's not a happy vid. But then, this is the most painful of love stories - made up of mistakes and missteps and actions that can never be forgiven. The almost title is spot on, every single moment of this vid is filled with emotion. There are great swathes of sadness, loss and painful betrayal. There's Erik realising too much, too late... and Charles being too damn righteous for his own good. There is no happy ending, and no reconciliation... but that's okay, because it was never meant to be like that anyway. If you, like me, wanted something that just tapped into all those feelings... this is the vid for you.

[x] Diary of an Evil Genius - White Collar vid recs: Randomly craving White Collar today. How can I survive another 2 months without this show?? The cliffhanger is killing me!! So, as I do, I found some awesome music vids to obsess on in the meantime. This is It Happens In a Blink, by CSImaja. Neal and Peter centric, lots of action and angst, not too many overt season 3 spoilers. Fantastic editing. I love it so much! And here's a great Neal vid - This Is Your Life, by ViddersRock. Definite spoilers in this one, since it uses quotes and longer clips from various seasons. Nothing too major. Gah, this vid makes me want to smack him and hug him all at the same time. Neeeeeal. :(

[x] kass | ♥: This afternoon I took a few minutes to (re)watch Us, the multifandom vid by lim. You can find the vid on her website for download; you can also watch it on blip.tv (Alas, embeds from blip no longer seem to be an option.) And if you're curious, she also posted the vast list of sources. I love this vid so much. I love the way it jumbles together a million different fannish images I know and love -- Kirk and Spock, Spike and Angel, Fraser and Ray -- juxtaposing them, blurring them, shadowing them and scribbling over them with the filter of fannish creativity which allows us to choose, again and again, where we want to focus and which parts we want to highlight and make clear and vivid and real. I love the way this vid feels like a love song to fandom. Because that's what fandom is really about, for me. It's about us. Our dreams, our hopes, our visions, our creativity, the things we make with and for one another. The gifts we give. The ways we read the shows we love, and the shows we don't love, and the shows we wish we could love more, and create community around every insight and conversation and connection.

The song chosen is entitled 'Long Long Time Ago' which is the theme to the movie Pan's Labrynth. [x] redblueskies - Rec: X-Men: First Class (Vid): Rolling in the Deep Vidder: arefadedaway (dreamwidth) Pairing: Charles Xavier/ Erik Lehnsherr Summary: Charles and Erik, from beginning to end. When I first started looking at the Charles/Erik fic produced by fandom I was disappointed to see that there was so very little of it that dealt with what happened after the Beach Divorce (as fandom has taken to calling it.) I can see why people choose to ignore it. It's not a happy story, after all, and Charles and Erik most definitely don't get to walk off hand in hand toward the sunset with love in their hearts and smiles on their faces... But damn it. I wanted that fic! You know. The one where it's all terrible, and they never do reconcile with one another - but love each other anyway because love doesn't care about petty things like ideological differences. I wanted that fic. Well... I didn't exactly find that fic... I found something better. This vid by arefadedaway is all of that and more. Almost entitled 'ALL THE FEELINGS' this vid looks at Charles and Erik and takes who they were and what they became, and makes it wonderful. It's not a happy vid. But then, this is the most painful of love stories - made up of mistakes and missteps and actions that can never be forgiven. The almost title is spot on, every single moment of this vid is filled with emotion. There are great swathes of sadness, loss and painful betrayal. There's Erik realising too much, too late... and Charles being too damn righteous for his own good. There is no happy ending, and no reconciliation... but that's okay, because it was never meant to be like that anyway. If you, like me, wanted something that just tapped into all those feelings... this is the vid for you.

[x] Diary of an Evil Genius - White Collar vid recs: Randomly craving White Collar today. How can I survive another 2 months without this show?? The cliffhanger is killing me!! So, as I do, I found some awesome music vids to obsess on in the meantime. This is It Happens In a Blink, by CSImaja. Neal and Peter centric, lots of action and angst, not too many overt season 3 spoilers. Fantastic editing. I love it so much! And here's a great Neal vid - This Is Your Life, by ViddersRock. Definite spoilers in this one, since it uses quotes and longer clips from various seasons. Nothing too major. Gah, this vid makes me want to smack him and hug him all at the same time. Neeeeeal. :(

[x] kass | ♥: This afternoon I took a few minutes to (re)watch Us, the multifandom vid by lim. You can find the vid on her website for download; you can also watch it on blip.tv (Alas, embeds from blip no longer seem to be an option.) And if you're curious, she also posted the vast list of sources. I love this vid so much. I love the way it jumbles together a million different fannish images I know and love -- Kirk and Spock, Spike and Angel, Fraser and Ray -- juxtaposing them, blurring them, shadowing them and scribbling over them with the filter of fannish creativity which allows us to choose, again and again, where we want to focus and which parts we want to highlight and make clear and vivid and real. I love the way this vid feels like a love song to fandom. Because that's what fandom is really about, for me. It's about us. Our dreams, our hopes, our visions, our creativity, the things we make with and for one another. The gifts we give. The ways we read the shows we love, and the shows we don't love, and the shows we wish we could love more, and create community around every insight and conversation and connection.
