Cole, my nephew, served in the Panamanian Conflict in 1989. Before he entered battle that Christmas Day, his commanding officer told the group that 15 percent of them might be killed before sunset. Steve Irwin is dead. I was not a fan of his TV-sensational antics, but admired his love of animals. I'm not surprised that an animal killed him -- a stingray.
