I feel it would be nearly impossible to move between the basement and the second floor while avoiding the first floor. It would be very difficult to move around in or gather in the building without risking interacting with the 1st floor group.
Restricting it to the basement of SB is an option though a less than ideal one. But there are three classrooms there if memory serves. Two for games and one for socializing/food could work. Problem is... people are loud and I don't know if we really want to deal with having to be quiet all the time.
True, there are three or four rooms down there, and I think the sound is insulated enough... and we could send one tabletop upstairs if need be, since that wouldn't result in much traffic?
The scheduling office has actually been really awesome to us this year, so I'd be nice. Alberteqx has gotten us just about everything we want, and given how fond the scheduling office is of him, I really do believe that this is just a mistake.
That said, I say go with another building - having to move things over is a pain, but you won't have to worry about noise or wandering people if we're in another building, which is probably for the best.
Upper floor Sayles is really quite well insulated from the floors below, so I think that is the obvious choice, despite the difficulties of dislocation.
I concur with Sayles; many people will probably have to go back home, or to stores, for their potluck stuff anyway -- so going on to SB rather than back to Sayles, probably isn't too much trouble foodwise. Given the level of Trouble involved if we stray to the wrong floors, it seems wise to steer clear altogether. And the Sayles classrooms are perfectly nice, and a dance group is likely to be less bothered by running into gamers on their way to the bathroom. And are there even bathrooms in SB aside from the first floor anyway?
I would also second Serin's statement -- the scheduling office is being handled this year by the fabulous Elmo instead of Mary Sullivan, and they have been awesome. All kinds of awesome. The scheduling software is new, also, so they may have glitches.
You know, I think the only women's bathroom is on the first floor, so we'd definitely have to go with gender-neutral restrooms or something if we did the SB plan.
There's a handicapped unisex on the ground floor, as far as that goes. Also note that one downside of the Sayles plan is that I believe its bathrooms are only in the basement, which will mean some trekking.

BTW, any idea to whom I can send an angry "I'm an alum and I'm not giving you any money for continuing to shit on my friends like this" letter?

I would rather help people carry stuff, than worry that I am being too loud, or messing things up.
