Today I solved a problem which has been bothering me for nigh-on ten years. In the game of Set, the instruction booklet states that the game can end with either 9, 6, or 0 cards. Intuitively, it makes sense that if there are only 3 cards left, they will necessarily form a set, but it's quite challenging to really prove it/understand why ( Read more... )

Went to the New York Philharmonic tonight, for an astoundingly low price thanks to the NYPhil Meetup. They played Liszt Les Préludes, Gubaidulina Two Paths, and the Brahms 1st Symphony. Anyone else see the end of Caprica? Quite good-the show managed to redeem itself in the final few episodes it had remaining, in my opinion. There were still some flaws in the writing, and one or two WTF moments for me.
