I'm not sure if I ever imagined myself at 35, celebrating my birthday in Lima while on a 95 day sojourn of South America. Can't say I'm for better or for worse, except to embrace the moment and enjoy what life brings.

Last August, while travelling for what seemed like forever past fields of palm and rubber, it came to me that I should take a break from work sometime in the following year.

We spent 3 nights in El Calafate at Hotel La Cantera. The hotel had a cozy forest lodge vibe, and a lovely view of Lago Argentino, the largest freshwater lake in Argentina.

After a glorious 7 days in Chile, it was time to commence on a new adventure in Argentina. It was a 4 hour 15 minutes flight from Santiago to Punta Arenas, with a stopover in Puerto Montt, on Sky Airlines. Based on the recommendation of Audley Travel, we skipped Ushuaia and headed for Puerto Natales. It was a 2 and a half hour drive to Remota, home for the next 3 nights. Santiago was a great introduction to South America. It felt relatively safe, the food was delicious and it was easy for foreigners to get around.
