Libre Office is free and it will read and write MS Office files.

As is OpenOffice. I prefer the cleaner interface of MS Office, yes, but those will do the trick. Also, have you considered Google Docs? Or Drive as it is now called.

I use Libre Office, since I don't have the money to buy MS Office for Mac. My coworkers who all use MS Office never have a problem reading the files I send them.

Ok, between you and Dad's recommendation I'm downloading it. Had a moment of inspiration earlier today on what kind of creature it is in that cave, so I can finally flesh out the story a bit more.

It's writing itself very slowly.

We use word perfect because it is more flexible and can read and save to all programs. If your interested we may be able to mail you a copy
