Some friends of mine are hosting a film showing this week, I recommend anyone in town check this out. This is a great documentary, and will be a great opportunity to discuss gender, sexism, and homophobia in hip hop. I've seen this film already, it's excellent. Why is this the best song ever?
Jesus, the bass line alone is enough, but no, Tears for Fears just had to throw in the synth! Too much. The video kinda sucks, but I like the nerd in TfF and the monkey seems alright too. Not even going on my wishlist
I'm ordering this fucker right now (and you should too). One of the best films I've ever seen, and sadly never released on DVD until now. If you want some insight into the mini-insurrection in France in late 2005, this film does great justice in contextualizing life in the French ghettos. -

Barcelona
Walked 10 or so miles today. Went to the graves of Durruti and other Spanish anarchists and anti-fascist guerrillas killed during Franco´s 40+ years of terror. It´s wonderful to be able to speak the language, although Catalunyan Spanish is very different than Mexican Spanish, but they say we speak it fine. An AP poll was released today with Americans predictions for 2007- it's looking grim:
"-58 percent say this was a bad year for the country. Nearly a quarter say it was a very bad year.

Item: A lot of teenage girls must be cutting themselves. I swear, every couple of weeks a teenage girl is in the shop and when they're paying I've noticed cutting scars on their arms, some old, some new. It's happened so often that I look for it now ( Read more... )
