Four Less Years

Ok, so I think I have to agree with Nathan on this one. If you cried because Bush is president, you're probably overreacting. Yes, he's not a nice man. Yes, the Right will probably be able to pass a lot of bad laws. And yes, this country will be headed decidedly down in the next four years. However, politics is like alcoholism. You have to hit ( Read more... )

Crying signifies a certain level of frustration, defeat, anger, whatever and etcetera. It is not the crying, which stemmed from a very high level of emotion (what I might call overreaction) that bothered me, but the high level of emotion itself. A bunch of people sent out mass emails Wednesday morning that were filled entirely with repeating obsceneties. Plenty of people, in my opinion, had too much emotion tied to the election, which is supposed to be a logical and objective democractic process ( ... )

I think the crying/obsenities (and I speak for a few people I know of, not necessarily myself) stems from the fact that people are dying because of george bush's reelcetion. Some people find containign their emotions on the subject of innocent deaths difficult, and I don think that emoional strife is something therefor we can criticize. Perhaps there are some cases in which we can only wait for changes that will take a long time. But when innocent people are dying, can it wait?

This is not to say that crying will prevent even one innocent person's death but maybe it's better than indifference. This is also not to say that most crying/swearing people are responding to the fact that people are dying. Maybe they jsut dropped a boulder on their foot.

The only problem I have with your statement is the whole "they will undoubtedly be given equal partnership rights as a man/woman married couple might enjoy" part. This may be true in a few states like CA where there is ban and homosexual marriages but not civil unions, but not in the majority of the 11 states where bans on gay marriages were enacted. There were clauses banning civil unions in addition. This undoubtedly presents a problem for couples that need a binding government contract of 'togetherness' to pass on health benefits and insurance from work among other dilemmas this will cause ( ... )

1. If you press the button marked "Caps Lock" you won't have to put up with that massive lettering.

2. If you had actually read my entry perhaps you would have realized that it was not about my opinion, but rather about an inevitable constant known as change. In fact, as far as liberalism goes, I was saying that whining is futile. If you're too blind to accept change then you have a very empty view of the way the world works and I pity you. I have no intention of encroaching on your beliefs, however even if gay marriage is banned, it will be unbanned. You can't legislate morality. Prohibition taught us that. Whether you

3. What the hell distatorship?

4. I pray with all my heart that this is indeed a bad joke
