Watched this not long ago and loved it. You should check out Blood Tea and Red String by Christiane Cegavske! It's one of my all time favorites. Might be a tad dark for Felix.

I've got to check this out! That eyeball character is giving me serious flashbacks. One of those things that is familiar from childhood but I've never been able to pinpoint, must have seen this as a kid.

Maybe Labyrinth? There are a bunch of weird eye creature clusters when Sarah first enters the maze. I think this movie was made in the 2000's.
