MMP Referendum

I'm sure you all know the election is coming up soon.  You hopefully also know there is going to be a referendum on our electoral system at the same time.  If you haven't already done so, please head on over to http://www.referendum.org.nz/ and have a quick read up on the various options.  This choice is just as important - or more so - than who ( Read more... )

Very important indeed!

I would like to also add that you don't have to vote in both sections of the referendum - you can vote in only section one if you like (or neither!).

I voted yesterday (as next Saturday is going to be a bit crazy with a huge cycling event here). I didn't vote in the second section - all the alternative options seem equally confusing and/or undemocratic and I couldn't bring myself to pick one!

That is a really good point! I would much rather that people just don't vote rather than picking an option at random.

Ideally, it would be STV with a single electorate and 120 choices.
If you wanted to vote for your "party", just do 1- MPs they have listed.

Yeah, that is one thing that makes me a bit skeptical about the whole thing: All of the proposed alternatives to MMP are less proportional (although STV comes close).
