Golden Anniversary

Walt Disney's "Bambi" was released 74 years ago today, but I missed a more personal related anniversary earlier in 2016. This past April marked 50 years since I first saw "Bambi" in the theater. (Actually the only time I've seen it on the big screen ( Read more... )

28 years? Wow, that had to have been difficult keeping that to yourself all those years but I guess that's why your character's a deer. :)

Yep, that's the reason alright! In my ideal form, I'm a Disney deer just like Bambi. (Except I have blue eyes, not brown.)

I remember seeing Bambi in a movie theater but I don't remember when that was. I'll never forget: "Look Bambi, new Spring grass."

The last time Disney released "Bambi" to theaters was 1988; before that, 1984. So maybe it was one of those?

It played at our local theater both times, but if I recall correctly, in '84, it was matinees only (which meant a theater filled with noisy kids, and I wasn't about to go through that again), and in '88, I worked evenings. I just assumed it would be released again in a few years, and I'd go then, but that never happened.

The last time I heard of it being shown on the big screen was for one screening down in the Bay Area a couple of years ago, but as much as I wanted to go, I really don't have the money to afford to make a 600-mile round trip drive and pay for an overnight stay in SF just to go see one movie on one night.

If it did get another theatrical release, though, you can bet I'd go see it more times than "Zootopia!" I've watched it hundreds of times on home video, of course, but for a movie with such sumptuous visuals, nothing can compare to seeing it in a theater.

Nope, this was in the early 1970's, I was just a child back then.

Isn't it incredible how we can keep such loves locked away for so long? I could never explain how enamoured I was of Bugs Bunny, or other toons, or other furry things, yet when I hit the 'net I suddenly felt at peace (well, with myself, excluding fandom flame wars). And how did I deal with the decades in between? *sigh*

Congratulations!

As you know, it wasn't just my Bambi love that I kept hidden in my younger years. Never mind a "closet," I had a whole locked basement full of furry secrets. So yes, finding the fandom online 22 years ago really did open the floodgates for me! It was almost like a psychic orgasm, and one that has continued to this day! ^^

Thanks! There's a lot more to the story, of course. It's sad and ironic, though, and not something I think my furry friends would really want to hear about. I may have told you about it in person at some point, but my memory isn't good enough to remember for certain if I did...

Every time I watch Bambi, I think of you, if you don't mind my saying so.

I certainly don't mind! I would insist on it, actually. ^^
