While re-reading the chapters in Liber Aleph that pertain to the four powers of the Sphinx, I felt moved by one passage: "If then by thine Art thou canst conceal thyself in thine own Nature, this is Silence". This year we have an abundance of black and yellow garden spiders in our yard. Several times a week, Rose and I catch bugs to feed them. With our huge infestation of grasshoppers, all the spiders are getting really fat. It's amazing to watch the spiders eat. I may be nuts, but I think some of them have personalities. This morning on the radio I heard someone define the police as "the nearly poor, who are paid to control the unruly poor". It's rather sad, but true. I hate to advocate higher taxes, but wouldn't it be nice if we really paid our public servants what they're worth?
