Ah: time for my annual piece of QUICHE.
Like CRUMPETS and Fisn 'n' chips from the chipshop, it takes me a year to forget how disgusting these things really are!

Now that's something you never used to see: a bloke walking down the high street openly smoking a joint, and then placing it on the window-ledge of the dodgy "unlock the mobile phone you've recently nicked" shop before entering, because it's now illegal to smoke in shops. . .

Many have argued against the existence of a Supreme Being, propounding that such an all-powerful creator would never allow horrid suffering, cancer, genocide etc into His creation. I see that flat shoes are in fashion for ladies (and wimmin) this season, no doubt as part of the "modern" look that they've come up with. I don't suppose they thought that, having spent the last however-many years walking on heels that girls now all waddle like ducks as they saunter through town of a summers evening. . .

They're nearly done filming Robinson Crusoe here in sunny York. The film company hired rooms in our West Offices for auditions and costume, and while casting for extras they asked me to extra for the show. I understand that girls these days are under terrific peer pressure, obsessed with body image and obliged to aspire to unattainable standards of beauty and style forced upon them by the media and "super" role models. It's nice to see, then that they've started featureing sad old boots like Eva Longoria on the TV to take some of the pressure off ( Read more... )

I see that Olympic torch thing is clocking up the mother and father of a carbon footprint as it makes its meaningless journey all over hell's creation. I was impressed to find that it made its way to INDIA yesterday: the world's largest democracy where only 1/3rd of the population are starving. The Japanese whaling fleet has curtailed its "scientific research" early thanks to pressure from Greenpeace and other activists, reducing the cull to about 500 whales, compared to a target of around 1,800, a small pice of good news in an otherwise STUPID world. Very amused to see the BBC correspondent stood outside No. 11 Downing Street in eager anticipation of Alisair Darling, set to emerge any minute brandishing "The Gladstone Bag": The battered old box with the budget speech in it, presumably along with a few bits'n' bobs that he might need during the afternoon (sarnies, spare incontinence pants etc). Watching a BBC News 24 debate yesterday (Sunday: of course) on the US Presidential election, one American commentator described Hilary Clinton saying "Suddenly looking like last week's meatloaf".
I thought: "what do you mean: suddenly?"
