1. Smash has been a letdown, to say the least. Vulture is posting some utterly amazing and laugh-aloud recaps that rank up there with TWoP's heyday. Especially the stuff about Anjelica Huston as an immortal dark priestess.

2. Tomorrow night I'm going alone to a midnight screening at a theater that's not exactly the safest part of town, and I ( Read more... )

I so agree about "Switched at Birth" being a great show. I've been following it from the first ep and it makes such a nice change from the mysteries and weird sf/urban fantasy shows I usually follow.

My experience with late night movie showings is that the theatre usually has cops on hand for whenever people are there, especially after the movie. Hope you enjoy the movie! I'm looking forward to your review!

Luckily, it was so crowded last night that I didn't have to worry about security! And yeah, I quite enjoyed it. Will have to post a mini-review later. :)

Valet parking is available in the parking deck & out in front of the theater. Not sure if it's available that late, though. You can also pay a flat fee to park near the elevators & cashier pay station. You can also call & have security escort you to your car. Have fun!

I actually called the box office on Thursday to see what the situation would be like. The usher who answered laughed and said that AS is usually deserted that late. As I tweeted last night, this turned out to be an exception, with HUGE crowds at the theater. I ended up parking in the deck and had no problems whatsoever -- in fact, I was thrilled that I walked out of the theater at 2:32 and walked into my front door at 2:54. Not bad!

I originally started watching Switched at Birth thinking it would be a guilty pleasure show but am surprised by how good it is. Yes, there are soapy, silly moments but over all it's so well done. It really makes me wish I knew ASL. I love when shows make me want to learn.

Most ABC Family shows are, by nature, guilty pleasures. (Damn, I miss The Middleman, which I flat-out loved without guilt.) I was afraid that SaB would be a bit too treacly and heartwarming, but they've found a great balance. And I'd also like to learn ASL!

The odds are high that I'll be perfectly safe, but I am a wee bit worried!

May the odds be ever in your favour!

(couldn't resist, couldn't resist)

I am likely going on my own as well. I do know there will be people I know at the theatre, although I don't know which of the 4 midnight showings they'll be at. I am a little worried since this movie will be clocking in at 2 hrs 22 minutes and with an anticipated 30 minutes of trailers, we're looking at 3am or later before it lets out. Is it bad that I didn't think to be worried until you said something?

Hee! I also thought of the "odds" line right after I posted, but I was too lazy to edit. ;) So glad to hear that you had a fabulous HG experience as well!

It really was wonderful. Hanging with the president of the PTO and several teachers from my daughter's school in a theatre full of college and high school kids. It was actually the perfect crowd. I'm so glad I bit the bullet and did the midnight viewing. Just seeing our marvelous Effie Trinket cosplayer was worth staying up late!

It sounds like the ATL crowd skewed a bit older than PGH. Most of the people I saw were in their 20s and 30s, though definitely some teens. I kinda wish I'd taken photos of some of the cosplayers! There were quite a few Effies and Katnisses and such. I also got a kick out of seeing several hipster-ish guys with homemade Peeta t-shirts. ;)
