[Rose is taking the whole situation in stride. Seriously, there are only so many times one can be trapped in another universe and join up with the local military before even that gets a little routine. Going back to school, though... that's new.

She doesn't bother to visit the dorm and change out of her UNIT uniform, deciding instead to jump right ( Read more... )

[And Marco grabs a seat across from her and glances at the various gear.]

Looks like someone's well prepared, eh. Just get back from a mission?

I bet. 'S nice to work with family.

Piloting?

Aye. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Not that either.

I bet.

[okay, now you've confused her] How, then?

Innate ability. I'm not all human. [Just so deadpan about it.]

So... like, with wings? Or some sort of levitation?

Wings, yes.

[And since Marco never cares what other people think of him, he just switches the arms into giant fiery blue wings.]

The full transformation is a lot more elaborate. [Okay, not really because of the way devil fruit work, but whatever.]

[She's leaning over, just managing to stop herself from reaching out and touching.] That's amazing. Absolutely amazing.

Does it hurt, changing?

[She can touch, the fires won't burn, just feel very soothing and slightly healing (emotionally, they only literally heal Marco)~]

Quite the opposite. [Small chuckle and grin.] They heal me. When I get in a serious fight I tend to wear a whole coating of these flames. Feathers. [For him? One and the same.]

[She runs a tentative finger along one blue flame. It's odd, touching fire and not being burned. Odd, but good.] They're gorgeous.

[She sits back and beams at him.] Thank you for showing me. I've never seen anything like it.

Thanks. [Grins ear to ear.] It's nice to have someone who appreciates them rather than wanting me to stash them away.

The unknown is always feared, so it's hardly new just because we're in this world, but hah, still nice getting a good reaction to that, eh?

More than happy to serve.

[A solemn nod.] It's sad that, in all the places I've been, that's one of the few things common to most of 'em. People tend to lash out at what's different, especially when things are going wrong.

It's a basic instinct. I'm just pleased when I see people work past it. And more here do than not, I think, surprisingly enough.

You'd think we'd have evolved past that. Or at least enough to think.

Is it that weird? It's easier when you've been on the wrong end of a witch hunt, which seems to be about everyone that ends up here because of the Time Compression.

I'm not sure it's a matter of thinking so much as survival though, eh.

Aye. But I suppose I'm used to it. Being hunted for being an outcast of society is rather what being a pirate is all about.

I was rather hopin' one was related to the other.

I thought it was 'cos pirates were outlaws. More... legal than cultural differences, I guess? [a shrug] But my history's no good, and I've never met the sort that sailed the seas.
