Freedom of Islamic Religion...

Now...  I'm not a fan of religion...  I feel that it holds people back from personal acceptance and finding themselves..  But that's another thought for another day...  Because, while I do not care for religion itself, I fully support complete separation of church and state.  (However, I do support taxing Church income ( Read more... )

Okay.....but it's France. :p France..like all they gave us was kissing and fries. There is no way a nationed ran by pussies is ever going to pick up enough speed to get this off of the run-way. If I invaded France ...RIGHT NOW...by myself. They would all surrender :p

If you're joking, I don't think this isn't an appropriate discussion to make fun of France in this manner. If you're not joking, then your further input should be disregarded by all.

Context makes some comments inappropriate, and imo this was one of them.

This ban goes in my "Europe isn't as awesome and free as we American liberals like to think it is" file, right next to the Swiss minaret ban. If France was so concerned about radicalism among its Muslim population, Sarkozy would be spending his time trying to do something about the way Muslims are treated in the hiring process, not scoring easy political points by banning something which even newly converted, single women might (and do, or so I've heard on various BBC radio programs) choose to wear out of their own desire to self-identify as a Muslim.

Some women, however, are not wearing the veil out of choice, and that isn't good either. The second part of the law, the prohibition against forcing someone to cover their face, I agree with that, but, like Woody, I doubt it can be enforced effectively. What woman, already forced to wear the veil by her father/mother/husband/brother etc., would dare turn them in, unless she was simultaneously planning to flee France?

Really?

Of all the Islamic related world issues to pop up in the last two years, THIS one gets your goat? Not the stonings happening in Afghanistan, or the gay execution squads in Iraq, or the lesbian corrective gang rapes, or.....

A) This will probably be declared unconstitutional.
B) If the law is viewed as truly unjust, people will go against it, as there's even a guy who set up a fund to pay the fines the government will impose.

Frankly, I don't care. It's messed up, but that extreme Islamic shit is tied heavily into terrorism and violence. Want to be treated fairly? Try not rioting in the streets (2004, remember?).

Context: Our landlord, who is very nice, is a Muslim. His wife goes out with him wearing veils sometimes, as a fashion thing I'd assume, because other times she goes without. So if it's a choice and made illegal, then it's just a choice. It is not required by their religion :>

I never said that this is the only thing which bothered me... It is simply topical and I felt like starting a dialogue.

The Christian religion is filled with laws and standards which modern Christians choose to break every day... Just because a religion requires it, does not mean that every follower does it.

"Perhaps France could set aside neighborhoods for Muslims, to keep them safe"

Woody .. erm.. I dunno if you've ever heard of Parisian suburbs >_>

Anyways , trust me , this law is actually for the best , they're having HUGE problems with radical islamists and religious groups trying to get right based on their religion.
(And people using burkas to hold up banks .. I wish i was kidding on this one)

And these women you're talking about are BARELY getting out in the first place.

The fact is , you can't leave any religious group have an inch and the problem with muslim people in France is that there are so MANY of them (and so many who are very right-winged) that as soon as you permit religious exceptions to them , it becomes a mess.

And i say that in a knowing-french-people-who-told-me-about-it-as-a-fact kinda way. Not as an intolerant rant.

No , but I personally know people who live there , watch french news often and everything.

I KNOW what's going on.

No.

You THINK you know what is going on.

Unless you can answer "Yes" to the question I posed then your information is THIRD PARTY, which makes it complete BULLSHIT.

Do you know any french Muslim women personally?
