Don't worry, John and I were outnumbered by our animals by approximately a 3.5:1 ratio. Of course, they weren't all cats ... ;-)

Someone posted a formula for determining if a household is "crazy cat people" -- something to the effect of "two cats for each human plus one cat" is just barely ok, "plus two" would be CCP. I amended it to "adult humans" meaning anyone who regularly takes on litterbox and grooming duty without complaint or reminders.
