Merci, mes amis!

My thanks go first  to all the right-thinking voters of my beautiful and long-suffering country who had the courage to take a bold step into the future by electing me President of the Republic last Sunday.  I know I can count on you again to give the UMP a solid majority next month in the legislative elections, after which I can begin the work of ( Read more... )

He's talking about his wager with you again. Don't you think it's time you told me the terms?

Why, I'd be delighted to, Silvio. Nicolas wants me to come see him with a pad of paper and a pen and write down what he says. I suppose he plans to talk at length about the spiritual feelings his ascension is giving him.

Why do I think you're leaving something out?

Do you need my help, Dominique? I've already given him a warning in a comment I left to this post of his. Go read it and tell me if you think I need to speak more plainly.

I look forward to a long and productive working relationship with you and your government, and I'm confident that there will be good cooperation between our two countries. Just be careful not to overstep yourself and meddle in time-tested institutions like the ECB simply because they don't follow the model you think most beneficial to France.

*sigh* In some ways I might actually miss M. Villepin, especially now that Tony Blair has announced his own imminent departure. (*lips twitch* I heard someone say that Mr. Brown has the personality of a plant, which may be accurate even if not very nice.) Dominique could always be counted on to be amusing in company, whatever his delusions concerning me. Our American colleague, on the other hand, is just vulgar, and I really didn't need to be reminded of that shoulder rub. It's burned into my memory.

I hope you enjoy chatting about endogenous growth, and the effect France has on Germany, with Nicolas as much as you did with me, ma chere Angie.

Might you be in Germany as a private citizen next month during the G8? I still have your birthday champagne chilling, and I'd be delighted to have you over to drink it. I know my husband would be delighted to have you under our roof just this once to bid you farewell.

Even in this difficult time, I am not safe from your neverending strategies and ploys to get me into bed! Have you no shame, Madame?!

Turning to France's continental partners, Romano and Angela sent good wishes, and I look forward to seeing both of them next month at the G8.

*sotto voce* I knew Prodi would turn out to be good for something. That's a phone call I wouldn't have cared to make.

*louder* Nicolas, Nicolas, my very good friend! I'm flattered to see that you're taking me as your model and indulging in the good things in life. You must explain to your critics that this is why you're fighting against the 35-hour work week. Tell them that if they work hard and save, they too can dream of having a throbbing, pulsing beauty like La Paloma under their control. Just don't forget, Nicolas, that boats are female. Make sure you confine your attentions to the right sex and don't go coveting what's not yours.

What exactly do you mean when you say you want France to "fix Europe"?

dominiquelechic May 10 2007, 17:33:45 UTC
Ze same way Napoleon fixed Europe in 1806.

Think of something nice, and I'll make sure the soon-to-be-out-of-a-job French PM stays far away from Washington.

Do you promise? Scout's honor? Cross your heart and hope to die?

You have no such power. What are you going to do, kidnap me?

That's one possibility, I suppose. But it might be simpler to just take away your passport. You won't be using the diplomatic one much longer anyway.
