This longish rant was inspired by a response that I'd made on
gothhippiegrrl's LJ earlier this month. I debated not posting it, since making a full-length post out of a comment is complete and total vanity. But then I changed my mind and decided that this is something that needs to be said, publicly, and often. Vanity, thy name is Woman urmwyd.

Someone needs to come up with a t-shirt that says: "Blessed Am".

I know what you mean, I'm feeling awfully fortunate myself these days. And I find that I complain less about trivial shit when keep that firmly in mind.

Truthfully? I can understand when someone gets really pissed about losing their job, or having to shell out a few thousand dollars because something went on their car, or if someone near and dear to them is dangerously ill.
But I keep seeing people get pissed over trivial shit. Parking spaces, that 10% off coupon that expired yesterday, someone not immediately flooring the gas pedal within .005 seconds of the light changing, that kind of stuff.

Americans who complain about how bad they have it really get on my nerves sometimes. Maybe I should try the bemused strategy. ;)

I was half-expecting you to write: "That's a TERRIBLE attitude, Craig! With so much suffering in the world, being a happy person is irresponsible and insulting! Now pardon me while I go to bed with my 2 gorgeous women ..."

Are you wearing a tu-tu?
Can we have pictures?

If you send me a tutu, I will not only do a pirouette, but will take pictures. Video, even!

Being angry is what actually makes me not want to help people. If someone comes to me in the library with an embarrassed smile and says: "Hi. I have a 15 page paper due tomorrow and I need some help with the research", I will bend over backwards to help them. If someone storms into the library screaming and demanding that I help them, I will point them to the computers and say: "Book catalog's right there ..."
