I really like how you worked it out why Justin isn't at the Babylon reopening and that is now forever my canon.
I really liked this too, it was one of the things, like the blank emails, that just jumped into my awareness from the part of my brain where Justin lives ... and I went, oh, of course, that's what happened.
I can imagine a thousand reasons Justin wasn't there (other than that he didn't care, we're not even going to consider that one). He was in the bathroom, he slipped and sprained his ankle, he couldn't get away from his job, whatever. But this is my canon now too, both because it feels right and true, and because it's, well, just like Brian and Justin, isn't it? OMG I love my stories, I'm insane. Truly totally insane. I never see authors sqeeing about their own stories in their comments section, am I the only one? Am I a freak?

NO!! You are justifiably enjoying your own creativity. Because these little things are coming out unplanned and they all work. Squee on!
I actually like this Melanie much more than the one in canon. She's realistic and sees things clearly. While she's clearly based on canon, she is able to grow and visualize the whole picture and make thoughtful, appropriate calls.
Michael can actually learn to accept Justin in Brian's life as long as Brian's happy. I like seeing that side of Michael...the one whole obviously loves Ben & Jenny and Brian, but in a platonic way.
Justin's genius voice is great, as always!!!
Now don't let us wait too long for the next chapter. :D
Melanie here is based very much on S2 Melanie, when Brian was trying to get her reunited with Lindsay.
Most of the really horrible Melanie shit was CowLip character assassination, rather than IMO her actual "personality." Of course, that's the kind of thing people might say to justify all sorts of OOC stuff.
And she's hot in a tank top so I'm her slave.
Michael... I really like Michael as a character and Brian's "best friend from high school/almost brother," but I was quite surprised to see a comment from my beta that she didn't like where I was going with Michael. So I took a hard look and I made some changes based on her comments, and I think it works much better.
Mikey also had major character assassination in S5, although he ended up OK.
S2 Melanie was the one I liked the most. I do feel that C/L had a great deal of trouble writing M/L and they became stereotypes. Not stereotypical lesbians, but they created two unfaithful, baby-making machines who couldn't solve a problem without the help of external intervention. The only storyline I really liked was the competition for career time in a two parents working household. Unfortunately that only lasted for 2 episodes. :/

I thought I'd get right to this as soon as I got home from work, but a "Deadwood" marathon interfered. (Episodes 216-220 vanish from On Demand today.) I viewed them for Gale.
Anyway, I am loving this. Among the many things I love is your vision of Michael: (A)s (Brian) got drunker his sense of humor got stupider and stupider, and I began to see how he and Mikey got so close in high school. Nothing against Mikey, he’s Jenny’s dad and I actually love him to death, but he’s, you know, a comic book geek who can spend quality time with Gus without dumbing down his entertainment choices. I’m just saying. Strangely enough, this is pretty congruent with my idea of Michael which may partially explain my enthusiasm.
Enough for now. It is 12:40 a.m. and dawn is going to come way too soon, bringing with it the need to make Lebanon baloney and mayonnaise sandwiches on white bread. Life is hard. FanSee
