Move:

Went surprisingly well. I was out three full days ahead of time, and excepting a mishap where I threw away my mp3 player, cell headphone, and two chargers, there was no horrible chaos or distress.

Heroes:

I'm volunteering the services of my Other Half, although he isn't sure how much help he can be over the phone from several thousand miles away. He suggests starting with the manual, and call him if you get stuck.

(Also, he says -- try to get it working without the security first, and then set the security up afterwards.)

Not so much :-)

But I'm sure he could think of something. (Or you could write me Joey/Kelly/Lance, and I'll pass on the thanks in some other format :-)

*laughs* I'm not sure if I could do that justice, especially in a thousand words, but the idea is amusing. Especially with Brian Warner. *snicker*

I haven't bought the modem or router yet, so...erm, how would I recognize, via techspeak, whether the one I was purchasing fulfilled both functions? (Can you tell it's been a while since I've had wireless?)

Based on recent attempts to aquire a purely wireless router WITHOUT any kind of modem built in? You'll probably pick up the right thing as soon as you walk into the store. :)

(I.e. we couldn't find a freaking wireless router with no modem. We had to buy one used off of ebay.)

Your internet-connection-providing-company may be able to offer suggestions as to models and so on. (At least, over here they'll only do tech support for problems if you've got a model from the Approved List and are running windows. :) )

Last, you know I'll help such as I can. :) Would offer to possibly swing by and set it up except i doubt I'll be in the area until maybe Christmas. :)

Depending how much the damn thing costs, I may be WAITING til Christmas. I'm also terrified of putting in the card. I'm so afraid I'm gonna break it or not put it in right and short it out somehow or mess up something else in the computer! Which is stupid, because I have PUT IN CARDS BEFORE. Ack.

Oh!

And I am firmly convinced in my little world that Jo? Is gonna become the Little Sister. Which is annoying in it's own way, but less so than a craptastic doomed love thing. (Particularly because Dean does not seem at all interested in her That Way.)

I hope you're right that they're related. I'm almost sick enough to wish they sleep together beforehand, just so it messes them up. *snickers*

perv. :P :)

They really do seem very sibling-like to me. Particularly the way they interact in the Director's Cut thing from the next ep, and the LOOK on Sam's face. (Actually, if she does turn out related, I foresee loads and loads of jealous 'he's MY BROTHER' Sam-bitchyface, which has tremendous potential to be funny as all hell.)

According to the random folkses upon the internets, they're not related, but I have my fingers crossed.

Sam's bitchyface is a thing to be dreamed of.

While I'm not a professional IT person, I can try to help you out.

My wireless network: Wall -> cable modem -> wireless router -> desktop and laptop. (in other words, I have 2 computers on the network)
Pretty diagram showing a fancy wireless network with extra bells and whistles; my setup is pretty basic.

My understanding is that wireless modems are typically hooked up to your mobile phone.

I'm assuming that you have an ISP providing you with wired access. If so, and if you have a regular modem, you'll want a wireless router in order to modify your setup to accomodate wireless access ( ... )

Please ignore what I said about the wireless modem.

Shiiiiininess. I might just do that--plug in a cable so I can talk to someone online at the same time as the great wireless experiment happens. I may have to toss the whole wireless idea for the time being if it turns out it's too expensive--set up a new time for the asshole cable guy to come and be snarky. Hopefully it won't be too many more days.

Sounds good! One more detail: my desktop computer is plugged into the wireless router; it's only my laptop that's actually wireless.

I checked walmart.com and they have some pretty good prices for wireless routers. Mine's a D-Link, for the record, and I found setup to be relatively painless. The only bother for me was the security setup as the user interface for that part took a while to figure out, but I can explain that to you.
