After doing a couple figure drawings, I have come to the conclusions that not only are they goddanmmm hard, but so especially are hands and faces.  Faces I expected- a slight miscalculations, it looks 30 years older, or surprised instead wistful, or like a total idiot, or just skribbled and lopsided. The fan brush makes you seconds away from a sense of depth, and of course, this makes you just seconds plus three away from fucking with depth.  It was actually quite surprising how stark the portrayed depth in my paintslopping appears.  I painted three "trees" and just covered up the bases with the fan brush, the middle one higher than the first, ( Read more... )

Oh my. I watched an episode of The Joy of Painting, by Bob Ross, and ended up getting a fan brush, which is what he uses to make those happy little trees. And holy crap!
