Poetry Fishbowl Report for Tuesday-Wednesday September 7-8, 2010

Sep 13, 2010 13:12

This month's Poetry Fishbowl turned into ... beached fish.  LiveJournal service was impaired until about noon.  By the time I managed to get the "open" post up, a lot of people had apparently vanished for day due to poor service, and the traffic never recovered.  I got some prompts, but the activity was definitely low.  I tried leaving the fishbowl open for a second day, and only picked up one more prompt.  I did get some fine poems, though.

The theme was "DNA, genetic engineering, and evolution."  I broke up the work times, only counting hours when I was actively writing.  So I was only on the clock for about 5 hours, 45 minutes.  I wrote 15 poems.  All were medium except for one short.  All used a single prompt.  While a majority were free verse, I did get a few forms, including two rondeaus.  A total of 10 people sent prompts.  Alas, there were no new prompters.

Read some poetry!
The following poems from the September 2010 Poetry Fishbowl have been posted:
" The Book Within"
" Crimson History"
" The Difference Between"
" Infinitesimal Angels" with art
" Of Locusts and Plagues"
" Soul Cravings"
" The Things We Change"
" Two Peas in a Pod"

There are four new verses posted in the epic poem " RUT?" Click through to find out who is texting our hero!

This month I also tried something new for promotion.  The announcement included a poem, "The DNA of Poetry," available for anyone to post on their blog if they link to this month's fishbowl.  So if you link to the unsold poems list or to this fishbowl report, you can still reprint that poem.  What do you think -- was this interesting enough to consider repeating, or kind of meh?

Buy some poetry!
For those of you interested in sponsoring poems, I have posted a list of unsold poems from September.  There you can see the original thumbnails along with line count and price for each poem.

All of the currently sponsored poems have been posted.  Copies of poems have been sent backchannel to their prompters.  Please vote in the generally sponsored poetry poll, if you haven't done that yet!  It will stay open at least until this evening, longer if necessary.  Donors can also read the donor perk-post.

Donors for August include ellenmillion, marina_bonomi, the_vulture, and janetmiles.  There were no new donors this month.  Special cheers for marina_bonomi whose contributions have stacked up to make her one of my k-fans.  In particular, she's been supporting the development of the Origami Mage series along with individual poems.  I'm grateful to everyone who helps make these poetry fishbowls possible -- whether it's a couple of bucks here and there for the general fund or a big chunk to publish a long poem.  I'm still studying the patterns to see how you-all are influencing what I write and what I release to the public.  Thank you all for sharing this journey with me.
