Whoa!! I wish the red tide out here was like that. Here in FL when they say there's a red tide it means the seaweed beds are exposed and it gives everyone horrible allergies.

According to my uncle, this one was pretty unique. Not only was it unusually bright, but it lasted for a long time (like a couple months). And it didn't kill off the fish; apparantly red tides can be toxic.

Definately. I'll let you know if I hear of another one. probably a good place to go to see it would be in the Camp Pendleton/San Onofre area. Basically, as you go south on I-5 toward San Diego, theres this big empty space. This is Camp Pendleton, a huge Marine base where they do lots of training, maneuvers, and big wargames. In the middle of this is San Onofre, a nuclear power plant that looks like 2 giant boobs with flashing red nipples. Anyway, there's not much ambient light, so it would show up pretty well, I think.

During the day, it's not so cool; the water looks kinda like cheap, nonfat chocolate milk.
