I assumed it wasn't poisonous since it didn't have fangs, which is how they inject venom, isn't it? At any rate, I kept my distance. These pictures were taken with a zoom. Utah is the place I genuinely worry about snakes since we have a healthy population of rattlers here. I nearly vomited the day I went trail running right past one--he was well camouflaged until he rattled at me--and then I thanked the clouds Apollo wasn't with me.
Apollo was oblivious. He was either napping in the ferns or sniffing hopefully around the sardine cans from lunch.
Yes, it was totally riveting to watch. And how can you not root for the peaceful, beer-loving herbivore? ; )
We didn't spent a lot of time in Vancouver this trip, but the asian influence is everywhere, so I imagine you'd have a field day. I noticed it particularly in the prevalence of high rise living. I also happened to notice the UBC has a linguistics dept...

B.C. has a few (wonderful) things in common with Norway, it seems to me. Hopefully some day I'll get to do a direct comparison.
