The trip was great. I got a lot of stuff done at the house. Everything went either back to MN in my car, found a (semi-) permanent home at my dad's, went to the thrift store, or went in the trash. Already almost done with this rash of auditions. Turns out this one I thought would be a shoe-in but it may not be. It's not that the conductor doesn't want me, he does, but he doesn't have the men, especially tenors, to balance the women. Second audition went down tonight--North Star opera. A bunch of Oles were there (that's St. Olaf students, if you didn't know) ahead of me. I thought I sang and acted well--can't fault me for throwing myself into it fully! Auditions, that is. Four auditions within one week. Today I sang for the MD of a big church (MD, BTW, is musician short had for music director, not medical doc *wink*) in the city. I did fall asleep at 5:30AM and got up at 8. I didn't get any card written, read only part of one play. Then at class last night, I learned that I really needn't have worried. I had a really good audition for the conductor of the MN Chorale today. Like the first conductor, she said she couldn't do much for me now, but encouraged me to audition in the spring. She said there are about 50 sopranos on contract and there's not much turnover so it will likely be tough to get in. However, she does get calls from church choir ( Read more... )
