Because a few friends let slip that bird pictures might be interesting. She's not as cute as the cats, but you can tell that her peanut sized brain is capable of a very distinct personality and a whole lot of mischief. This is her attempt to avoid a birdie shower.

   Just had the first meeting of the academic year about applying for residency... agh. This is after I've had people tell me that the 10 months off (mostly so Caethan and I could graduate at the same time) are a giant 'red flag' in my application.       So to the great confusion of my non-medical friends out here (and family - I think Caethan thinks I'm crazy), I'm hooked up to an insulin pump for the weekend. There's no insulin involved, but I am doing the whole checking sugars, carb counting and giving appropriate amounts of what-would-be-insulin through the pump thing. It's interesting.

      With the afghan of Dooooooom. Since, y'know, I started it in 2005 and now it's 2009. Admittedly, it spent most of it's life-in-construction rolled up in a bag or a box, and it was surprisingly fast once I really spent some time on it.       Three days in the Diabetes Center so far - not quite as fast paced as inpatient Medicine. I swear a full third of the patients haven't shown up for appointments, which makes for a rather bored Zoli.       Got called in to see a patient yesterday with the shakes - the "haven't had a drink since I was admitted to the hospital a week ago" kind of shakes. So we checked the record - he told the docs on admission that he drank maybe 3 drinks a week. Pity he didn't tell us the real amount before he started seeing spiders on the wall (literally).

     Friday was graduation here at WashU - sadly, I didn't get to go and was still in the hospital running around takin' care of folks. (With one patient getting prepped for brain surgery on Monday morning. Ulp.) But, Friday was the day that most of my original class of 2009 changed from the mess of Mr./Ms./Mrs./Miss to Dr. Hurrah!
