Made of Honor I am convinced too many romantic comedies have ruined me for any successful future relationships.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall I thought this was supposed to be hysterically funny or something? What did I miss?

Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist I have not fallen in love so quickly with a movie since Garden State. I have not ( Read more... )

I am SO SO regretful that I missed Nick and Norah in theaters. I was so excited to see it and I never got around to it. I'm glad you liked it. I will now go see if Netflix has a release date for the DVD yet. :)

You know, I said that without checking, and holy crap, it IS still in theaters!

Ooh, I hope it's still there this weekend. (Weekend showtimes aren't up yet, but right now, there's one showing per day, at 4:40 in the afternoon. I wonder if I could leave work early to see a movie.) :)

Yeah, I still haven't seen it either and I found out today that Janine has -- and she didn't really sound stoked enough about it to go see it again.

i've always thought that Aliens was the best of that franchise. one of the first R-rated movies i ever saw. James Cameron is great with explosions.

That's what he thought too.
I just found it boring! And the effects were laughable. I mean, I get that it was made 20 years ago, and they didn't have CG and stuff, but it just all LOOKED like models to me. I just found myself thinking "that looks like a model. That looks like green screen. That alien looks like a crab" the whole movie, and couldn't enjoy it :(

Aliens is more of an Action movie (and very good one at that), but if you want the scary, Alien (the first one) is much more suspenseful. Make sure to watch with the lights out.

a lot of that comes down to philosophy. CG looks too smooth to me, too sterile, too saccharine, too lifeless, too cartoonish. For example, I love the look of the old star wars movies. Hate the look of the new ones. CG is great for some stuff- i thought Wall-e was one of the most beautiful movies i've seen. but for monsters like that aliens, or spaceships, i really do prefer the older lo-tech techniques. i think that's why i'm also drawn to the Battlestar Galactica series- the fighters and spaceships look dirty, battered, and real.
