Memorable Q&A (or icon tips and tricks) SessionsraiindustApril 9 2011, 08:00:33 UTC
This post by letsey-x. Techniques/Topics mentioned include: General questions, light/glow blobs and text. A second post can be found, and it mentions: preparation of a base, inspiration, blending, colors/light, text and further general conversation.
This post by blueymcphluey is quite exceptional. It asks you consider things about the iconing process that may not be obvious, and may take you outside a comfort zone. But in a brilliant way.
This post by motorized, followed by this post. There's some interesting things mentioned, as well as ways to consider iconing that could be seen as a little out of the box.
Part 1 & Part 2 of a Q&A by absolutelybatty. Techniques/Topics mentioned include: General questions, extending background, blurring an icon, pretty lights, colouring trends, and general directions of icon making.
This post by emmahyphenjane, which references: font, textures, colouring, and provides a lovely tutorial showing some amazing colouring skills.
This post by tle_lovie69 is more of an icon making guide than a Q&A session, but definitely worth being checked out all the same. It deals

I owe a lot to that first post by letsey_x. The glowing blobs effect (that sounds really gross, btw!) is something I use in so many of my icons but in a much more toned down way. It's become somewhat of a standard technique for me.
They're basic coloring tutorials, but go into explanations about achieving contrast and rich vibrant colorings on icons and IMO imaginary_lives is probably the premier icon maker for beautiful colorings and amazing contrast.
That Morgana tutorial ruined me. I'm serious. I can't make icons now without using tips from that tutorial; it's insane. Anyway, consider this a +1 comment!
THIS.IS.AMAZING. LIKE. AMAZING. I personally think I struggle with cropping, and this tutorial has both cemented my belief that I'm right, but also shown me that there are a million and one other ways to crop an icon. Thank you for sharing it. It's going straight into my mems, and I'm going to procrastinate a little while longer to play around with some crops!
