On Thursday night, bohemond, bicoastal and I went to the SF Weekly Music awards, as Blackalicious was scheduled to perform a full set. Unfortunately, the audience was not that into music -- they seemed more interested in socializing as part of the music scene, I suppose, rather than participating in it -- so Blackalicious didn't grace us with an encore. Alec Woo is a fellow graduate student in the TinyOS group. He works -- well, is finishing up his thesis, so maybe 'worked' is better -- on multihop routing. His major contribution has been coming up with an efficient and accurate link estimator for sensor networks (presented at SenSys 2003). Watched the debate with a few others at cleverpig's. Very enheartening. Kerry did well. Hearing Scooter's comments, I decided the killer app for sensor networks is a flying mote that lets him be a demon in someone's ear. I went with Phate and Aimee to the hill behind the Greek Theatre tonight, to take advantage of the Pixies concert. Doing so means that I can't say that I saw the Pixies, but I certainly heard them: we sat about twenty yards behind the back row.
