Bun bo Hue is one of my favorite soups, (and I'm a person who loves his soups.) I've been searching for a recipe for this dish for quite some time, and I've never actually made a version of it that I've liked. Until now. Oddly enough, I've developed a vegetarian version of bun bo Hue that is quite tasty. Here it is:

A beautiful sunny morning; the market was packed and there are still more people selling live plants than are selling food.

The Haul:
1 bunch spring onions
3 large leeks
4 tomatoes
1 lb strawberries
1 watermelon

The Bill: $7

The Menu:
Tomato salad
Watermelon soup
Vichyssoise
Strawberry shortcake

I'm planting the warm weather plants today:

flat leaf parsley
sage
mint
basil
strawberries
tomatoes
cherry tomatoes
Pumpkin
Watermelon

I confess that most of them were an impulse buy and not some Grand Plan.

I can't believe how much hard work there is in starting a garden. It's especially hard since I have only allocated $50 and hoped that most of that would go towards plants. Whoever told me not to buy cheap garden tools was so right. I've already wrecked the cheap planting shovel ( Read more... )

Feeling like pyrzqxgl, I sat in the farmer's market this morning munching a tamale. It was covered in a really simple but very tasty salsa. Yum.

The Haul:
9 flavored honey sticks, (lemon, lime, orange, and grape)
1 pint strawberries
1 pineapple
3 red bell peppers
1 head cabbage
5 green tomatoes

Yeah! The farmer's market is back. Although the only locally grown stuff are onions, lettuce, garlic, and turnips. Oh, and pork.
