Mama is about the same as yesterday as far as alertness. She had a leak in the drain they have in her head, so the Dr had to come in and put another stitch in. To do that they also had to open the drain, which they had had clamped off. The Dr said the drain has to be clamped off for 24 hours straight before she ( Read more... )

Mama is not doing too well today. We are not able to keep her awake for more than a minute or two at a time. The Nurse Practictioner came in and said that even though she had such a good day yesterday, it is not uncommon for her to have a bad day after a good one. Dr Olsen just came out to talk to us. He said Mama will be in recovery for 1 1/2-2 hours. They removed as much of the tumor as they could, but he couldn't say how much that was. He said they would do an MRI tomorrow ( Read more... )

Mom's still in surgery.  acorn_destroys and I have left though.  Neither one of us handles hospitals well and the press of the family and the total lack of emotion was getting to us.   I should be used to it by now, but seeing people who are obviously upset fighting back tears or avoiding contact with one another still seems wrong.  Somehow I grew up thinking ( Read more... )

I'm off to brave the rush hour traffic to try to get to the hospital before my mom's surgery.  It was pushed back to noon, but I'm still running short on time.

Surgery next week, either Tuesday or Wednesday, we don't know which yet.

My mom's at Emory in the ICU.  Yesterday she was taken to Gwinnett Medical after having convulsions and vomiting.  They sent her on to Emory when they saw some "irregularities" in her EKG.  Right now they're trying to get her to be able to hold down solid foods and are working on getting her surgery moved up.  They won't be releasing her until she ( Read more... )

So we've known about this tumor since June 18th.  Knowing that, the August 29th surgery date seems a bit much of a delay.  Apparently not enough of one though.  Her surgery has been rescheduled for October 9!  Do they think the tumor is going to stop growing in that time?  How is she supposed to deal with more than a month of delay?  It's not like ( Read more... )
