I've begun volunteering with the rescue group that runs the adoption room at my local Petsmart. I talked to a potential adopter for one of the cats yesterday, and they came back today and took the cat home. This is the first adoption since I started volunteering.

I saw Avengers tonight. I liked it a lot, and there are a lot of very funny bits in the movie. But I may have been the only person in the theater to LOL upon noticing that in every scene, Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts) is barefoot. Levon Helm, drummer and singer of The Band, died today at the age of 71 of throat cancer. He possessed one of the most recognizable and memorable voices in rock 'n' roll. He felt every word he sang, and he made the listener feel them, too.

You may have read that the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization has cut funding to Planned Parenthood for breast-cancer exams and other services for poor women who can't otherwise afford them. I got a sympathy card yesterday from the emergency hospital that treated BoyCat over the past couple of months and on Tuesday night.

BoyCat lost his battle with congestive heart failure early this morning.
( Lots of sentimental blathering and photos under the cut )

After our troubled visit to the cardiologist earlier this month, I was dreading BoyCat's follow-up visit this past week.
( So we came up with a plan to minimize the stress on him, and it seems to have worked. )
