My sweet Clydeberry died today. She had been failing the past few days, and it seemed like time for her to go. My friend Josephine went with us to the vet - after everyone there said good-bye (she was a big favorite), they gave her a sedative and then an overdose of barbituates. It was very peaceful for her. Today revolved around the cats. Due to poor planning, I absolutely had to go into the city to get dry food from their vet, and then my friend Kristin came over to help me water Clydeberry, i.e. give her subcutaneous fluids to help with her kidney disease. October 12 is the day before Erik's and my wedding anniversary. So normally there might be some trilobite cookies involved, or some symphony-going, or things of that nature. Today . . . not so much. I realize that's a strange way to describe it, but I feel grisly calling myself "the bereaved," "the grieving," or that Victorian standby, "the relict."
