Thanks to Señor atún, I have a new motherboard. Alas, linux is not very happy about changing drive ids around, ie from hde3 to hdc3, even when I changed the fstab to point to the new places -- it kept saying the fsck failed cos it could not find hde5. The motherboard on my linux box has gone under. It was an old used Pentium 3, and gave a me agood couple years of use. Does anyone have some aged unwanted old motherboard/PC they're no longer using that I can replace it with? I don't need something with any actual power, just enough to run a server or two and not heat up the flat with the CPU.

After almost 8 years since I first set foot in Japan, I've finally made it past immigration. While I do wish I'd made it to Japan sooner, I'm glad I went when being paid in ££. Turns out, the stuff I've been calling Nyoro Nyoro is actually "shirasu", a kind of baby sardine. So really, I'm just going to keep on calling them Nyoro Nyoro.

What are those tiny wormy-shaped things with spots at one end served with Japanese meals? If I had to guess, I'd say it was Nyoro Nyoro (aka Hattivatit).

So in about 10 days i'm off to Tokyo for a week. Work-related, so I'll having some spare time after hours. Plus a Sunday at the start and a Sat at the end.

So... suggestions? I'm staying in Shimbashi, if that means anything to anyone. I'll not be up for clubbing, but more touristy things I can do nearby or reasonably easily reachable by subway.

The everpresent view of the new Arsenal stadium from everywhere near Hollloway Road makes me feel like I'm in NieA_7. It just needs the curly thing on top.

I think The bloody Dell box is not designed for airflow. Bought a fan, and ended up removing all the extra expansion slot inserts and putting an inflow fan in place of that lot. It runs about 3 deg cooler (42 instead of 45). There was no way to get a fan in the front. I may need to do some remodeling a la this. Any suggestions ( Read more... )
