Kinder Moments: Ali *

I went to help out at kinder one day and after reading to another child, I got to read a book to Ali. He was very keen for me to read out the names of different things in the pictures although he couldn’t say much. Suddenly, he couldn’t contain himself and started talking to me in his language even though he must have known I couldn’t understand ( Read more... )

From a workers perspective, parents coming to help out is so appreciated, especially if they actually go and do something such as reading or craft work(its no help when all they want to do is chat!) I couldn't stress to you how valuable that one-on-one time is for a child trying to grasp 2 languages. I had a lil danish boy, who's parents used Danish at home. I wish she'd been in a position to help me learn more than such basics as mum, dummy, drink and kiss ( ... )

Yeah I'm sure it's all good in the end, I just wish those kids had a bit more support. That kind of thing is always so half baked in the education system especially under Mr Sheen.

Isn't it interesting when you meet some amazing person who happens to be small and you wonder what they'll be like when they're grown up?

That's so cute that story! One of my clients has a little 3 year old girl who is just sooooo gorgeous. She speaks 3 languages fluently (Arabic, French and English) yet seems to want to talk to me in Arabic, even though she talks to the rest of the workers in English.

Not sure what that means, but she's soooo gorgeous I could just kidnap her so easily! She waltzes into our office and screams out "Bonjour" as if she's a rock star who's greeting her admiring crowds!

Tomorrow I'm playing with crayons with her - I love my job!!

I love a multi skilled job where you get to put your fingers in many pies. It's a kind of stress relief in itself!

How gorgeous. I miss getting to work with kids. Every now and then I get let out with the education staff :) I love my job but you don't get nearly as many cuddles when you're working with adults!

I love working with kids. Cuddles aside it's also their honesty and openness that I really love.

I'm helping kids at secondary school who have English as an additional language (as we call it here) for an hour a week and it's one of the most rewarding parts of my entire week! They all wave at me and say hi in the corridor when I see them, and behave immaculately in my lessons too, which I believe isn't the case for many of them the rest of the time. I'm thinking of specialising in this area....maybe it would be even more beneficial for younger children (and less stressful for me too, maybe....) Keep it up!

I think the opportunity to do one on one work enables a greater sense of impacting upon your student and developing a positive relationship - especially with the older kids. It is probably far less stressful too being able to do one thing at a time without interruption or the feeling of backlog - too many students wanting your help. Also not so much behaviour management to worry about. A very tempting combination!
