ok, I just adore these Tuesday mornings, when I get to read your recaps before school (: they gave me some serious cheerfulness for the whole day^^
and now I'm downloading 1x04 to re-watch it :D oh and as much as I hate to admit it, in S1 I actually saw the Chair chemistry, and it wasn't as bad as in further seasons. And I'm sure Blair is only making fun of Dan's clothes because she didn't see Chuck's basketball-outfit lol xDxD
Aww, thanks for the comment. Oh, and I get it. I actually used to Chair, too. And of the MANY (lol) issues I have with Chair, chemistry is not one of them. Ed and Leigh have really good chemistry (Leighton has great chemistry with, like, trees basically lol). I just don't like how dark their r/ship gets.
How about just the fact that the writers obviously always planned for them to connect and this essentially sets the groundwork for their future r/ship? Call me crazy, but I'll take that over limo sex and scheming. I was talking to my sister about this today (she has shipped them since 1x04 - I was Derena at the time but have since seen the error in my ways!) and I was saying that I think the writer's have planned Dan/Blair from the beginning. Through their scenes in 1x04 and things like the essay contest that the writer's strike ruined -I really do think the writers saw something with these two a long time ago. There has been a huge amount of effort put into the growth of Dan and Blair - both as individuals and as a couple. I can't think of another couple on TV that has had such a natural progression.
I'm watching GG from the beginning at the moment. I'm towards the end of season 2 (god this show can be boring!) so you doing these flashbacks at the same time is fun :)
Thanks for the kind review. And, yes, I was once a Derena and Chair shipper, but have "seen the light" as well haha.
Yeah, I've (obviously) been rewatching over break, too, and it's really been nice to get more perspective on them. I agree that the writers' clearly saw potential, but I think in part due to the writers' strike and chair, they dropped the ball.
All in all, again, I think I prefer their adult romance better than any high school incarnation.
Awesome to see you doing more of these, for the earlier episodes. Seeing all this again, the foundation for Dair was definitely there from the beginning. One of the statements that has annoyed me the most are the complainers who say Dan and Blair getting together is random and OOC, but if you look at their history again, them getting together makes total frickin sense! I like how you put it, "Boy meets Perfect Girl. Boy meets future bitchy love of his life whom he hates. In that order.", because that's a way more compelling romance than Darena or Chair
( ... )
First of all yes, I think Blair put it best when she said Serena "sporadically loves" Dan. Especially after rewatching, these two never actually had a r/ship after Dan discovered the "real her" with the Georgina thing. Ever since then, it's just been recycled Drama.
And, yes, Chair was founded on drama, mistrust, and games and suprise!--it ended in chaos. I also agree about Dan grounding her and vice versa. And at one point, I remember Blair admitting that part of the reason she played games with Chuck was to keep him entertained.
Also, while I do think part of Blair likes scheming, it doesn't necessarily have to be in a horrible way.For instance, she and Dan can "scheme for the good" (i.e. protecting loved ones, etc), not play weird hurtful games.

I think my favorite part was...
Blair: NGL,I'm kind of turned on.
Because I remember thinking that exact same thing when I watched that scene and saw Blair's face when Dan shoved Chuck. LOL!
Can't handle all the awesomeness that is you and these flashbacks.

I love season 1 Blair so much. She was painted as the bitch to Serena's good girl but god it was just so much easier to understand B and root for her.
Awesome recap is AWESOME. :)
