My paternal grandmother had a print of this painting hanging in her Queens apartment ever since I was a kid. A classic railroad flat, the print hung in the room adjoining the kitchen and when I was very little, I asked her who the boy in the painting was. Nanny told me that it was a painting of my cousin Kevin, who was in a marching band.
I believed that shit for YEARS.
