Today is cheep turkey day. I mean really how can you pass up $0.99/lb turkey? My fridge is cold, it's not quite thawed from Wednesday, so the turkey is currently sitting in a sink of cold water to finish thawing. 49F and misty this morning. Since this is the first day I'm really feeling better I did a quick 5 mile ride down to the Back Bay instead of a longer ride. Glasses fogged up a bit in the mist, I now understand the motivation for contacts and maybe I'll give them another shot. First time I've been a size 12 since early high school. I'm quite pleased with this new development.( female stuff )

This past week or two has been nutz. Fellowship applications are coming due and the quarter is in full swing. Sadly this has meant that I've been skipping my morning rides. I miss you Bike! On the other hand I have been amazingly productive, not sure if everything will end up getting done. Eek must get into the lab!

Apparently I'm going on long enough rides that I need to start thinking about what I eat during the ride. I was doing pretty good up until mile 25 where I started to notice I was a little hungry and thirsty. By mile 30, zombie mode with a head ache starting. Home was at mile 38 and by then I was convinced I needed fluids and was going to migraine. ( Read more... )

Quarter is winding up and I'm finding I definitely need my weekends. Saturday is cycling. Sunday needs a theme. I cut bread baking short last time due to a desire not to turn the house into a sauna. I'm thinking elaborate confections of some flavor (my dietitian would be horrified). Or possibly work my way through some main dishes in a good cook ( Read more... )

Update: Tension on the shifter cable was way loose it turns out. Tightened that up (for the 3rd time) and then adjusted the lower/upper limit screws (for the 100th time) and it works. I think I even managed to fix the original problem. ( Read more... )

We just got the new mattress and are currently letting the VOC's off-gas so I don't know if we are actually going to use it tonight. However the bed room was rearranged to accommodate the bigger bed and the old bed got set up in the spare room. Much stuff wrangling happened.

Can't wait for the new bed frame to get here in 2 weeks!

This marks the end of my first month of The Cycling Experiment. I did a total of 52.1 miles this week with an average speed of 13.2 mph. The 30mile ride I planned today turned out to only be about 20 which was a good thing! The wind coming back was a bastard. Need to remember to drink more, was definitely dehydrated at the end.
