You're going to note a lot of similarities between my time in
Alberta, the ninth
province and my trips to
British Columbia and
Saskatchewan. Once again the big childhood trip and the drive down from Alaska will figure prominently, but at least I actually did some things in Alberta. I've even been to both
Edmonton and
Calgary once apiece.
Calgary is the one I've actually been to the most. It was a major stop on that childhood trip out to British Columbia. I specifically remember that we went to the
Calgary Zoo, which I remember as being very cool. Wikipedia says my uncritical opinion is actually a pretty good judge, as the zoo is highly respected. I'm pretty confident that we spent at least one night in Alberta on that trip, and maybe more.
I have a vague memory that we might also have visited
Banff National Park on that childhood trip, but I may well have imagined that. Both Banff and
Jasper National Park are close to Calgary by the standards of western Canada, so it's not completely outside the realm of possibility. I certainly don't remember much about them if we did go.
As far as my the drive down from Alaska with my sister, after dark on the third day we drove through Edmonton, where we stopped for very authentic
Chinese food before continuing on to Vegreville, Alberta for the night.
Alberta touches the Rockies and does have a lot of interesting National Parks, so I can see going back for that reason.
