Mental health charities worth donating to?
One of my housemates is leaving me some furniture when she moves out this week; she's said she doesn't want cash, but would like me to make a small donation to a mental health charity instead. Can anybody recommend a good mental health charity that needs money? I know there are many fantastic charities and groups working in the mental health sector ( Read more... ) -

I know not everyone uses Facebook, so I just wanted to be happy here too: I've just found out that the NHS student bursaries people got my notification letter quite spectacularly wrong, and I'll be getting £1000 more this year than I had thought. I started my cardiology placement on Monday; I'm out at a rural district general hospital, with four other students. When we arrived for induction, at the very civilised time of 10am, we were taken to see the students' common room. It's a little outhouse with a microwave, sink, fridge, sofa and TV. It has been a very long day, and indeed a very long time since I updated here. I am well-settled in the new house, though am struggling to fit all of my stuff into my tiny little room. I got my exam results; for the first time since starting university, I did well. The pass mark was 57.9%, the class mean was 64.7%, and I got 66.9%. I passed every single OSCE station. I'm so happy. I just can't believe it. I was expecting to pass, but I thought I'd be below average. But I'm comfortably into the second quartile. Feeling quietly ( Read more... ) -
My faith in Labour has been restored (even if they're taxing the rich for all the wrong reasons)
Literally whooped for joy when I heard: income over £150,000 will be taxed at 50%.I know that the reasons Labour are having to do this are complicated, and I don't know enough about economics to know how I feel about their handling of the financial crisis, but I just get a visceral JOY from Labour doing what Labour should have done all along.
