GAME DETAILS
Premise
deadman_rp is a multifandom roleplaying game based off the premise of the manga Deadman Wonderland written by Jinsei Kataoka and illustrated by Kazuma Kondou. If you would like the best possible understanding of this game and its premise, I would recommend reading the series, but this is not required by any means. If you are interested, however, the manga is available on onemanga.com.
Your character had been convicted to death row for a crime they may or may not have commited. However, they were sent to the very unusual prison called Deadman Wonderland. This prison doubles as a tourist attraction to revive the tourism in the area, and the prison itself is like its own small city. The attractions and shows are all run by the inmates, and inmates are even able to earn a form of currency in prison that can allow them to live quite comfortably, provided they can earn the money. However, it's not as easy for a prisoner on death row. Upon arrival, they are fitted with a metal collar that gradually injects poison into their system. They must consume the antidote every week or else their death sentence will be carried out.
It sounds pretty miserable, but that's not it. Your character is special. Your character caught the attention of the Warden because of their unusual abilities, so they are in the special, confined “Sector G”. This sector is inhabited by inmates that are on death row, but displaying unusual abilities. These inmates are experiments, test subjects, and research subjects, so for that reason, once a week random fights are staged in events called Carnival Corpse.
Arriving
Each character has been convicted to death and sent to Deadman Wonderland.
Some characters might be guilty. Murderers and rapists aren't uncommon at Deadman Wonderland by any means. However, chances are, your character is innocent. But that's the way the law works, even if it seems unfair. It's actually a kind of conspiracy, to be honest. Because your character is different, and the Warden took interest in them, they've been convicted of a crime they didn't commit. However, it's too late to lament this now, since you're here.
Upon arrival, every character has a few things that are standard. Included in a small bag are the following: a journal, pencils, a padlock (with a combination), soap, toothpaste and a toothbrush, three sets of standard issue prison clothing, five pairs of underwear, three bras for female inmates, two smaller bags for holding small personal items, one piece of candy for all death row inmates, and a Cast Card with 1000 Cast Points (CP) preloaded. They are also fitted with a metal collar that allows guards to access prisoner information as well as injecting poison. Each inmate of Sector G is also given a codename of a bird species, such as Woodpecker.
As far as quarters, all prisoners in Sector G have their own rooms. All walls are white, and there is a small plasma screen television embedded into the wall next to the bed. There is one bed, and clean sheets are brought to prisoners weekly. Inmates live in blocks of five, sharing two toilets between the five people. Showers are walk-in, and are shared between two blocks, with one set of showers for men and one for women. Rations are free, but more exotic food may be purchased. Both are available in the cafeteria.
Explaining Multifandom
Now, as a multifandom game, explaining these discrepancies is necessary. In the manga, Deadman Wonderland is in Tokyo, Japan, but in this game, the surrounding area of Deadman Wonderland is unknown to inmates. All inmates are transported in confined, windowless vehicles from the courtroom to the prison. So! Basically, this means how you got here isn't so important, just know you're here now.
Death Sentence/Candy
Every character in the game is on death row. This means that the collar that they wear is, unfortunately, deadly. This collar gradually injects poison into the system, so if the wearer does not consume the antidote every seven days, then the death sentence is carried out. The antidote is in the form of a candy. There is one in your arrival bag, and only one, but they are available for purchase for 100,000 Cast Points.
Cast Points/Currency
There is currency in Deadman Wonderland. It is called Cast Points, commonly referred to as CP. This currency is stored on small cards that are similar to debit cards, where a barcode is scanned to purchase items. Each card is equipped with a unique password to prevent theft. CP can be earned by participating in the amusement park's operation, by participating in shows. In addition, the winner of each Carnival Corpse receives the highest award possible at one time of 1,000,000 CP.
It's possible to purchase almost anything with CP! You can buy clothing, furniture, candy, and food using your CP, and this is available through the vendor (link) or the cafeteria (link).
As a note! Moderators will be keeping track of the CP amounts for each character. If you, for some reason, forget how much your characters have, we will tell you. We strongly encourage you to keep track of this on your own. CP cannot be traded between characters, but more generous characters are welcome to buy gifts for others.
However, some things you do not need to worry about paying for. Toiletries, simple rations, and small things are free.
Deadmen
You are a Deadman. Deadman is a term used by the inmates in Sector G as well as prison officials to classify those inmates with unusual powers that are eligible to participate in Carnival Corpse. Of course, you are welcome to apply for a character with no unusual powers (the officials call these people “controls”, but in the system it's brushed off as a mistake), but they are likely to be killed. We recommend you review the “Death” section if you are considering a character that falls into this category.
Carnival Corpse
It's not enough to just be on death row, though. The inmates of Sector G are required to participate in the grotesque event known as Carnival Corpse. Carnival Corpse is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Deadman Wonderland, and the tourists think of it as amazing special effects and acting rather than the very real fighting it is. Carnival Corpse is a weekly event where two inmates of Sector G are chosen at random (using the magic of AIM dice) to participate and fight each other until the one is either incapacitated or dead.
The winner receives 1,000,000 CP, a trophy, and a piece of candy.
The loser, however, has a much more grotesque fate. If they die in the fight, see below. If they live, they are taken to the Doctor. A slot machines runs, and when the loser tells the machine to stop, the machine will pick a random body part (one again, using AIM dice). This part is removed by the Doctor for research. Often times, these surgeries are performed with anesthetic, and can range from anything to a limb to hair. These punishment games are available for inmates to watch.
Relating to the Carnival Corpse, we ask that before starting the log for each match, you contact the player you are to fight with and decide who the loser will be, and whether they will die or not. When you have this figured out, one of you must contact a mod to inform us of your decision.
Death
Death is inevitable in Deadman Wonderland, whether you couldn't afford candy or you lost Carnival Corpse. However, it's not so easy to just die in Deadman Wonderland. The character is often absent for 4 days to 1 week (you can pick the duration), but wake up in their block perfectly back to life.
However, they will certainly not be quite the same as they were before.
The Doctor will often take out a few body parts for research, and you might even have something new. Maybe it's an experimental heart valve, or maybe you've been implanted with one of the rare red crystals that give people strange powers. If your character has no special powers, the red crystal is required for their first death so that they can contend with other characters properly from then on. When your character does die, though, we will contact you to discuss what they will lose/gain.
On this concept! If you are planning a character death outside of poisoning or Carnival Corpse, contact any parties involved as well as moderators. If you are involved with a particularly graphic violence/death scene, we ask that you warn/cut/f-lock as you deem necessary.
Additional Experiments
This is a game for sadists, no joke. However, if you are doubly a sadist and would like additional experimentation performed on your character, you can go to this (link) post to apply. The staff of Deadman Wonderland is not able to do anything, but if you have an idea of something, go ahead and apply! You'd be surprised what tricks are up their sleeves.
NPCs/Special Characters
There are a few journals/characters in the RP that act as IC moderators or characters that are played exclusively be moderators. They are as follows:
bowling4heads: Warden Tamaki
Tamaki is the head Warden of Deadman Wonderland. He was formerly the Assistant Warden under his dying and elderly father, but after his father's death, took complete control of Deadman Wonderland. He encourages the unethical treatment of the prisoners. Characters will rarely meet Tamaki face to face, but he's often the one to make announcements to the inmates.
capias: Chief Makina
Chief Makina is the authority in Deadman Wonderland. In the manga, she has no control over Sector G, but in this game Makina is also the head authority of Sector G. She has the ability to neutralize a character's power with her sword. Makina acts as an IC moderator, and will break up fights between inmates as well as punish them for misbehavior.
thosesickhabits: The Doctor
This is the head Doctor of research at Deadman Wonderland. She also cares for the injuries of those of Sector G. She derives sexual pleasure from other peoples' pain, and she is the one that will remove body parts of Carnival Corpse's loser. She is known simply as “the Doctor”.
In addition, the general moderator journal is
deadman_mods.
In addition, regarding NPCs. There are thousands of criminals within Deadman Wonderland. If you would like to create a NPC thug that beat up your character for CP, go ahead! Anything too extraordinary will not be allowed, however, such as your character creating a prison gang out of NPCs.
Dropped Characters
These characters, by the prison's definition, have died and characters will be informed IC of a character's death, however, this is only when a character is dropped, not when they die IC. However, these characters can be reapplied! They will, obviously, have no knowledge of Deadman Wonderland other than what you learn upon arrival, but other characters may remember the them that was there before.
As a final note IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT ANYTHING, PLEASE CONTACT A MODERATOR! You can also ask questions in the FAQ post.
