PLAYING THE GAME

“...And taking into account the numerous pieces of physical evidence, though unusual, we hereby sentence the defendant to death.”

Welcome to Deadman Wonderland.

Deadman Wonderland is a unique prison, and in many ways. For one thing, it's a privately owned and operated prison, but that doesn't compare to the fact that Deadman Wonderland is also a major tourist attraction. There's the prison, of course, but the other part of the facility is a huge amusement park that the inmates perform and run the attractions for. Because of this work, it's possible for inmates to earn their own form of currency in prison, allowing them to live as comfortably as their money will allow.

But, of course, that's not all.

There's a rumor that in a special, hidden part of the prison, there exists a sector where there are “unusual” inmates. These inmates have unusual and varied powers, and they are called the “Deadmen”. The prison wishes to study these odd people. So it's said that these people fight against each other regularly as an attraction for tourists, called “Carnival Corpse”. What the tourists don't know is that these fights are very real, and the loser loses more than just the battle. The loser also loses a body part for the doctors of Deadman Wonderland to study. The winner, however, wins a large amount of the prison's currency and a special, vital item called “candy.” Besides that, all of these inmates are on death row. The collars they wear inject poison into them, so if they don't eat the antidote every three days, then the death sentence is carried out. That antidote is the precious commodity called “candy”.

It sounds very grotesque, and it is, but you may wonder why you're here. Chances are, after all, you're innocent. But you're special, and Deadman Wonderland wants to study you. You've probably been wrongfully convicted, but that doesn't matter anymore. Now you're here, and there's no time to rest before the games begin.

Communities
All communities use a tagging system for each character. This way, it's easy to go back to previous posts. The format for tags is “series name: character”. You may not create your own tags, but by the time you make your first post, a tag for your character should already exist. Tagging each entry is mandatory.

deadman_rp: This is the main community, where individual character threads go. This community uses a mostly first person style, with action indicated using whatever medium you chose, such as *action*, -action-, or [action]. The format is not important, but as a courtesy to other players, do not switch between them randomly.
Strikeouts can be used for IC or OOC asides, or as something the character might be thinking, but will not say.
For ooc comments within a comment, the standard form is to use double parentheses like so: ((this is an ooc comment))

deadman_ooc: This is the OOC community where you can post hiatus notices, introductions, or fun IC memes. Stuff like that.

deadman_logs: This community is for prose styled threads between characters and can be used at your discretion. This community should be used for more “serious” situations, such as character death, meet-ups, things like that. In addition, Carnival Corpse is always on the logs community. We also ask that you head each log with the following format:
Characters:
Location:
General Time:
Summary:
Warnings:

deadman_prompts: We would hope that you have a good grasp on your character already, but this community is to let your creativity show. It's a writing community for you to post fiction of applied characters, whether others or your own. These pieces can be In Universe, using developments from RP, or they can be background for a character. However, these are not logs, since these are written by one person alone, while logs are written by two or more people. We provide a prompts list for you to use, but you're free to post outside the prompts given. We also ask that you head each prompt with the following format:
Author:
Character/Fandom:
Prompt: (if any)
Word Count:
Summary:
Author Notes/Warnings:

Activity Checks
Activity Checks are bimonthly. These are very simple. We make a post in the OOC community asking everyone to reply in one comment listing all their characters. The post is open for one week, after which characters are purged, and considered “dropped”. Easy! Players on hiatus are, of course, exempt.

How's My Driving?
Ah, yes, the dreaded HMD. How's My Driving is also a bimonthly process where we will ask you to reply in one comment listing all characters. Other players are then able to comment on what they like about a character, or offer constructive criticism if they feel it is needed. Anonymous is enabled, but baseless bashing will not be tolerated. We also recommend putting a post for How's My Driving in each character journal, but this is not mandatory.

Permission Memes
Not every character is love and bunnies. If your character has a tendency to be violent or has canon Godmod powers (such as psychics or infomodding characters), we strongly recommend that you create a permissions meme for yourself, which should be posted in your journal. Once you post that in your journal, please post a link to the permission meme in this post. In addition, the permission meme below is required for all characters.
