It's the first of the Pre Christmas cleaning days and I've made a good start. It's disheartening to think that I'll work all day and at the end of it things won't look much better but I'll know that cupboards will be tidy, everything that needs moving out and cleaning behind will have been moved out and cleaned behind, beds will be freshly made up ( Read more... )

We were getting organised to go out this afternoon when I noticed a Robin behaving strangely, fluttering up and down one of the high windows in the barn; at first I thought it was collecting insects or even possibly confused by its own reflection but then I saw that what I'd taken for the reflection was actually another Robin on the inside of ( Read more... )

And sleeping in was unthinkable! By 8AM I had the spare room bed covers in to wash and was in the garden , got my exercises done, deadheaded the roses and did some weeding. Some years ago the village clubbed together to buy a mile of old railway line and two meadows. Four years ago we planted an orchard along the line; Last year I was able to find enough apples to enter into the village show.
