I think I need to be more careful at high altitudes.. Yewsterday. around Mt. Rainier I saw a ridge line not far from a parking area, and thought it might be fun to hike up to it to see the view from there. It was only about an hour away, so I started hiking. I think, it's time to really start heading home now. I've spent more time exploring the Yukon, and think I like it a bit better than Yellowknife, actually. Yellowknife was a great small city, but the surrounding area was a bit too flat. The hills and valleys are amazing, definitely worth exploring more in the future. It's a bit bizare being this far from home, off in the middle of no where, and not at a con or anything, and getting to run into furs I know. I've come far enough south that there no longer seems to be a religious edict against paving parking lots. Even most of the roads are paved again, here in Fort Nelson. I got as far as Fort Simpson, on the bank of the Mackenzie river. A little off the road, but it was the only decent sized town around, and it was nice to walk along the river and watch the thunder storms in the evening off in the distance. I've reached the southern side of Great Slave Lake, Yellowknife's on the north shore of it, about a 4 or 5 hour drive (and apparently a ferry ride) away. This isn't exactly a small lake either, the GPS says I'm still over 100 miles away, there's nothing to see across the lake ( Read more... )
