When odd results are good (first time round)
On Thursday I was doing some fluorescent microscopy on "project Y" (I started project X earlier in my postdoc) and I got an unusual result. Apoporiosis
I woke up this morning from a dream in which the last words I utterred (or the words of a character) shouted "Apoporiosis". It seemed of vital importance so in that half-asleep trance I kept repeating the word like a mantra in my head so that when I got up i'd remember it. I was just watching an interview with David Cameron on the "Andrew Marr" show and when asked how Britain was going to get out of the economic slump he pointed out we'd do this through innovation (interesting considering they have frozen expendiure on science effectively cutting it over the next few years) and pointed out that we are a nation of ( Read more... ) -

Talk done!
I finally gave my "big" internal talk at lunchtime today. I always hate the hour before a talk so went along early to set everything up and things seemed to be going smoothly. London British Beer Festival 2011
Last year was a good first visit to the beer festival. The only minor drawback was that some of the most talked about beers were already gone by the second full day.
