Archivists/Librarians - Adequate description is only a partial solution to the hidden collections problem. Agree or disagree? So the House passed this travesty. Shame. Deep, deep shame. If you can, please donate to Planned Parenthood, write a letter, something. This is absurd. And terrifying - The Handmaid's Tale is one of the scariest things I've ever read, and seeing overtones of it reflected in our world sends chills down my spine.

Oilpocalypse!
I'm a little surprised that the very plausible possibility of an energy crisis isn't making it onto the front pages of the Times. Most of what I've found is buried back in the opinion and editorial pages. But I just want to talk about guillotines!
My French Revolution class involves annotating a classic, very erudite account of the Revolution from the 19th century. I don't even know enough about the Revolution to know what to annotate. I picked up a sort-of pop history account of the Terror (my assigned section) just to get a grip on events without wading through a sea of academese. ( Read more... ) -

I did not get the job at the Phillips Collection. I'm not surprised - I was told that someone with their MLS and several years of experience had applied, so of course that's who they'll take. So last week I finished Tattoo #5, which is the mermaid. It is not Mer-Kirk. And I am thrilled, you guys. So here's the deal. In order to graduate by this coming December, I need to take a summer class.
