28 May, 2000:New York City is loud and swarming with people, literally millions of them all on one island, and it reeks. In scope, it reminds me of London with its tall buildings and being an international melting pot. God, what a harrowing ordeal. We are alive (although I would not say I am well) in New York City by the grace of God, the Fates, or whatever capricious divinity might be looking down upon us and no doubt laughing.

We are in Vienna today, and as I write, Remus and Cymbeline are asleep. We traveled from Rome last night, and while we did sleep on the train, it was not as restful for them as it was for me. When we arrived at the hotel, Remus was bleary-eyed and yawning, thus I sent him off to bed and put Cymbeline down for a nap with him.
