I too am a buy something new instead of doing laundry person. I've got three months of underwear so I don't have to wash if I don't want to.

I recommend Stain Devils. Particularly the Tomato one and the one for Ink. I think color safe bleach is pretty much a waste of time. It's either not really color safe or doesn't actually work.

It doesn't boost color but it does a good job when we're talking about ground in dirt so everything's sort of greyed out.

I had about seven or eight quilts and even more sheet sets on the floor and they you know... sprawl and collect stains from different areas.

One i washed twice and it was still gross. I threw it out. I suppose that will happen quite a bit as i go through this process.

I have a fetish for bedding so i have at least one comforter set still in it's packaging and three or four sheet sets all new and in the original plastic.

My experience with color safe bleach is:

1) No cleaner than it gets with just detergent.

2) Got the stains out, but the colors ran.

Of course it all depends on what fabrics and what it's stained with.

If you have room in your house maybe you should consider getting multiple hampers or laundry bags to throw all that stuff in? I've got two hampers and two cloth laundry bags that at least keep everything off the floor and out of the way until my quarterly laundry week.

Best laundry tip:

Get yourself something to sort the laundry.

Milk crates are great! You start with 3: one for whites/light colors, one for dark colors, and one for towels/sheets. The key is keeping them near where you TAKE OFF the clothes. You just put them directly in the sorter. When the crate is full, do a wash. Sometimes you wear more whites/lights in a week than dark and that basket fills up quicker. This way, as soon as you put something in that fills the crate you wash it. No more piles! This has worked for us for 22 years! We still have a light/dark sorter in our closet. It really helps with keeping on top of the laundry!

And since the crates aren't as big as laundry baskets, you can wash it on a smaller load setting. Less clothes washed = less clothes to fold and put away (which I hate also). This really helps visually/mentally!

Good luck!

i hate doing laundru with a passion,i do laundry when my closet is empty and i have nothing to wear.
i have no tips becasue my practices are so bad,but instead os deviding my laundry into whites, darks, delicates etc,i devide mine into four categ
1.dont care-this are the floor rugs,towels,sheets,comfoters.
2.somewhat care-everyday use clothers
3.care-work clothes
4.really care-special event,interviews,job meetings,dates clothes.
the really care i take to the dry cleaners.
the somewhat care i do myself but use cheap detergent.
the care i do myself and use tide, and clorox 2 for colors and reg for whites.
dont care i take to the laundry mart and have them do them.

I've stopped sorting by color completely. If i have something that's really dark, and new, like a purple top or red, i'll keep light colors out of that load but by the third washing, it's all in there together ( ... )

I don't use color safe bleach. I do use lots and lots of Shout beforehand, and after I apply it, I rub rub rub the stained area manually. Best is if you have two stained areas on the same garment. Spray them both, then rub them against each other ( ... )

I am careful to check over what comes out of the washer stainwise because i do know that the minute you dry it the stain is set for life.

Some stains are tamed with cold water and some with hot. This is another of those things taht is as mysterious to me as health insurance and peanut butter in desserts.

I'm doing the best I can but almost everythhing i'm washing is Large, (queen sized comforters and sheets) and stained, so it's hard to check everything but i am working on it.

i'm totally dosed on vicodin so i should shut up now

Ah ha! I read that warm water is the best for soaking - that avoids the cold vs hot decision. FanSee
